Predictive Text Podcast

April 29th, 2008 by karenanderson and tagged , ,

If you remember back to the beginning of the year we created a comic strip using the makebeliefscomix website. I created this character on that website.

See if you can create your own. Details of how I created mine are in the handout for the lesson.

In today’s lesson we are going to see how far we can get making a podcast explaining to someone who is new to using a mobile phone, how to use the predictive text mode.

We are going to use the commoncraft video’s that have helped us to understand complicated subjects. Last lesson we looked at the commoncraft video explaining what a podcast is. Watch it again, but this time look for ideas that you can use in the podcast that we are going to produce.

Also think about what role you would like to take in the team.

I have also embedded a Voki character in my blog left sidebar. Click on the play button to hear what she says. Go to the Voki website and make your own and put it on your blog with a message for your readers.

Predictive Texting

When I was your age mobile phones hadn’t been invented. In fact not everyone had access to a phone in the home only 25% of households had them. I have a mobile but I tend to only use it for emergencies. I take it with me when I go out in the car, in case I need to phone for help if the car breaks down.

Today in the UK there are more mobiles than people. The number of texts that are sent daily is incredible. Last New Years day in the UK alone over 214 millions texts were sent! No wonder the texts people sent me saying Happy New Year took so long to arrive.

In today’s lesson we are going to learn to use predictive texting. We will use the knowledge that we get to help us to make a Podcast so that we can explain to other people how to use this feature on their phones.

Dont know what a podcast is? Watch this.
